Distance v/s displacement

1.It is the length of actual path traveledIt is the length of shortest distance between final and initial points

Distance is more than or equal to the magnitude of displacement.


Numerical Problems on distance and displacement

Distance and Displacement: Distance refers to "how much ground an object has covered" during its motion while Displacement refers to how far out of place an object is. Distance is  a Scalar quantity whereas Displacement is a Vector quantity. Let's suppose a particle is constrained to move on a straight line path. It returns to the starting point A after going farther 10m from the starting point. In this particular case Displacement of the particle is zero whereas Distance traveled is 20 m.
