Stating Gymnosperms As "Naked Seeds" Can Be Perceived Wrongly
The seeds of gymnosperms are termed 'naked' as these are not covered by any ovary wall and remain exposed. Due to this, it is assumed that seeds are completely exposed to outside which is not always the case. The degree of exposure of seeds in gymnosperms varies among the various classes of gymnosperms. For instance, Ginkgo seeds are naked during the early stage of their development while, in case of Pinus species, they remain closed in cones.
