Adolescents

In this story, we are going to talk about you! Yes, you, your friends, classmates, and all adolescents around the country!

The children of your age group that means from 10-19 are called adolescent.

Adolescents are the most important resource of the country.

This is because they are going to make the working class population.

Around one fifth of the total population of India are adolescents, aged between 10 and 19 years old.

Adolescents have a very active lifestyle. We’re sure you love playing and hopping around with friends!

Therefore, the nutritional requirements of adolescents are higher than adults or smaller children.

Unfortunately, in India, a large number of adolescents suffer from health issues.

A large number of adolescent girls suffer from anaemia, due to low nutrients in their diet.

Anemia is a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues.

These conditions need to be improved through proper awareness and education.

Children are the future of the country. They must be protected and taken care of at all costs.

The national population policy of India is working towards that. Let us see some of the measures taken under the NPP.

For years governments have taken taken efforts for population welfare and finally National Population Policy 2000 have been formed.

Governments have realized that family planning can improve health and welfare.

So the family planning programme was established in 1952.

The NPP 2000 provides a policy to impart free and compulsory education to children below 14 years of age.

It also promotes delayed marriage for girls to help them realize all their dreams.

The aim of the NPP 2000 is to reduce infant mortality rates to below 30 per 1000 births.

NPP also aims to achieve universal immunisation of children against all vaccine-preventable diseases.

The National Population Policy and Adolescents

The NPP 2000 also identifies adolescents as a major section of the population.

The NPP focuses on providing proper healthcare and awareness for adolescents.

It also aims to make adolescents aware of problems like sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.
