Clothes We Wear in Different Seasons
It was an afternoon of summer and Ravi was going outside for shopping with his friends.
His mom told him to wear the white cotton shirt that she bought yesterday for him.
But he refused and said that he is comfortable with what he is wearing.
But his mom told him that in summer you need to wear cotton cloths.
Then Ravi goes for the change of cloth but doesn't understand why cotton cloths wear mostly in summers only.
Let's understand the reason behind Ravi's mom fact of wearing white cotton cloths in summer.
There are seven colours in the sunlight.
They are called as VIBGYOR i.e. violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red.
Any object can be visible only if it reflects the sunlight.
If an object absorbs all colours except red then it will be seen red while if other object reflects only green light and absorbs all other colours then it will be seen as green in colour.
If an object absorbs all the seven colour of sunlight then it will be black in colour.
While on the other hand if an object reflects all the seven colour of sunlight then it will be white in colour.
Now see the fact of wearing cotton clothes during summer.
There are two major facts behind wearing white clothes in summer.
First is white colour cotton cloths reflect most of the lights that come from the sun and these light waves carry heat with them too.
So, due to the white colour clothes, we feel less heat and perspire less in summer.
Second thing is that in the cotton clothes there are small pores among them and when we perspire then the sweat get traps in these pores and evaporates, which makes our body cool.
While on the other hand darker colour clothes are worn mostly in winter because they absorb more heat and make our body warmer.
Woollen clothes are also worn in winters because in woollen clothes small pores are there in which air get traps, which prevents heat to transfer from our body to the surrounding.
This happens due to the good insulation property of air.
This concept is also applicable if you have to chose 1 thick blanket or 2 thin blankets in winter to prevent from cold.
Two thin blankets keep you warmer than a thick blanket.
This happens due to air get traps between the layers of two thin blankets and it acts as good insulator which doesn't allow heat to transfer.
If an object absorbs most of the light of the sun and reflects only a single colour then that object appears of that colour which it reflects.
If an object absorbs all colours and reflects nothing then it will be seen as black while if an object reflects all the colours then it will appear as white.
