Introduction to Historical Background of Constitutional Development in India

Historical Background of Constitutional Development in India

In the year 1600 the British came to India as traders

They were allowed by Queen Elizabeth to do the trade with India. For this, she granted a charter to them.

For this they formed the British East India Company (EIC)

Initially it was purely a trading company

Later it got ambitious and it tried to control over Indian territories.

Now the British Parliament tried to control over the East India Company from Britain.

In this process, they passed many acts for governing it, so that they can get Indian territories under its control.

These acts laid the framework for the organisation and functioning of government and administration in British India.

These acts continued until India was granted independence on 15 August 1947

With Independence, India came under the need of a Constitution

For this purpose, a Constituent Assembly was formed in 1946.

It was headed by Dr B.R. Ambedkar

The Constituent Assembly took 2 years, 11 months and 17 days to complete the framing of Constitution.

Finally, it was implemented on 26 January 1950.
