We use many electrical appliances in our daily lives.

Different kinds of electric components are used to build these appliances.

The power source, that is, the electric power supply is the energy source for these appliances.

Power sources give current to the appliances on which they work.

Let’s understand electric current.

The term current means a flow of something. So in electric current, there is a flow of charges.

Conventional current flows from the positive to the negative terminal of the battery.

The flow of electrons is opposite to the direction of conventional electric current.

Let’s look at the water analogy to understand electric current.

In the previous diagram, a pipe containing water is shown. Initially, there is no flow of water.

When the electric motor is switched on, a pressure difference is created in the pipe.

The water flows from a higher pressure to a lower pressure.

A similar thing happens in the case of an electric circuit.

In this case, the battery creates a potential difference, similar to the water pump’s pressure difference.

The current starts flowing from the positive to the negative terminal of the battery.

The electric current experiences hindrance due to electric resistance.

As soon as the circuit gets completed, the current flows and the bulb starts glowing.


The flow of charges through a conductor is known as electric current.

The flow of conventional electrical current is opposite to the direction of the flow of electrons through a conductor.

The flow of electric current is from the positive to the negative terminal of the battery in a circuit.

Whereas, the flow of electrons is from the negative to the positive terminal of the battery.
