The LED is operated under the forward bias.
The positive terminal of the battery is connected with the p−side of the diode and negative terminal with n−side then it is called forward bias.
And because of the forward bias, the suitable potential drop appears across the LED.
When a suitable voltage is applied then holes from p-side and electron from n side are recombined.
And when they recombine the energy is released and this energy is in the form of a photon.
If the range of emitted photon is in between the visible range then we can able to see the different colors of light.
And the advantage of using LEDs in lightening purpose is because of the long life durability and low power consumption.
