Reflection of Light Through Plane Mirror - Advanced

There was a large mirror in Mohan's house.

One day, he was looking himself in the mirror.

While looking at his image in the mirror Mohan observed something.

He observed that if he rise his right hand but in image his left hand was being raised.

This is the property of plane mirrors due to which it was happening.

Let's understand this inversion of image by a plane mirror.

A plane mirror makes an image of objects in front of it; these images appear to be behind the plane in which the mirror lies.

The image formed by a plane mirror is always virtual upright, and of the same shape and size as the object .

The image() is virtual because the rays after reflection from mirror meets inside the mirror.

But there is inversion of sides in the image formed by the plane mirror.

This inversion of left side to right side of object in it's image by a plane mirror is called the lateral inversion by mirror

if we want to see our full image in a mirror then we need specific height of mirror to see our image.

Let's find the minimum height of mirror required to see full image of an object.

Suppose an object of Height is placed in front of mirror of height$$h

we can create the ray diagram of this object and the image.

Since the mirror and the image are parallel to each other .

Now, with the help of similar triangles property we can find the relationship.

So,we need a mirror of half height of the object to see the full image of the object.
