Stopwatch and Stopclock

We might have seen the quiz competitions or running championships on the televisions.

We do not use the regular watches in these games to measure the time.

In Marathons, the runner's time duration is measured by using a stopwatch.

A stopwatch is a handheld timepiece designed to measure the amount of time that elapses between its activation and deactivation.

And a large digital version of a stopwatch designed for viewing at a distance, as in a sports stadium, is called a stop clock.

Generally, two types of Stopwatch are available in the market.

An Analog stopwatch can measure a time interval up to 0.1 seconds.

And a digital stopwatch can measure a time interval up to 0.01 seconds.

Let's discuss about Stopwatch.

It is a handheld designed to measure the amount of time that elapses between any two points of events.

The timing functions of the stopwatch are controlled by two buttons which are $Start$ and $Stop$.

And there are also two scales in analog stopwatch called $minutescale$ and $secondscale$.

The minute scale measure time in a minute and second scale measures time in second together.

From which we can read the time duration.

Next, we will see how the stopwatch starts and stops.

On pressing the start button, the timer starts running.

And it will show elapsed time on display through minute scale and second scale.

For example- 03 minutes and 07 seconds.

But, sometimes that second button is also used to record split times or lap times.

These digital clocks typically use the 50 or 60-hertz oscillation of AC power.

And displays elapsed time in the form of minutes then seconds and then milliseconds.

Similarly, a big size digital version of a stopwatch which can be seen from a long distance is called Stop clock.

Usually, it is electrically operated and often designed for measuring very short time intervals.

Hence, mostly stop clocks are digital.

Application of Stopwatch

On the running track and marathon stopwatch is used to calculate the time.

In swimming competition, the digital stopwatch is used to get the accurate result.

In-car racing and formula one racing games stopwatch are used.
