Question

A ray of light passing through a prism having μ=2 suffer minimum deviation. It is found that angle of incidence is double the angle of refraction within the prism. Find angle of the prism.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

if i= incidence angle
r= refracted angle

i=2×r

sinisinr=μ

sin2rsinr=2sinrcosrsinr=2cosr=2

cosr=12

r=45

For minimum deviation, r1=r2=r

a=2×r

a=2×45

=90
