Question

Number of species among the following which have a bond order of 1.5 and are paramagnetic as well are
H2 ;C+2 and F+2

Solution
Verified by Toppr

For checking the bond order and paramagnetism
we have to write the electronic configuration
1.H2 (Total electrons=3)
Configuration...σ1s2,σ1s1
It is paramagnetic due to the presence of unpair electrons
Bond order=212=0.5
2.C+2 (Total electrons=11)
Configuration:- σ1s2,σ1s2,σ2s2,σ2s2,π2p2xπ2p2y
Bond order=742=1.5
It is paramagnetic due to the presence of unpaired electrons
3.F+2 (Total electrons=17)
Configuration:-σ1s2,σ1s2,σ2s2,σ2s2,σ2p2z,(π2p2xπ2p2y),(π2p2xπ2p1y)
Bond order=1072=1.5
It is paramagnetic due to the presence of unpaired electrons
Among the given species 2 have a bond order=1.5 and are paramagnetic.
