Question

Find the displacementcovered by the bolt during the free fall in the reference frame fixed to the elevator shaft.
  1. 0.7m
  2. 1.7m
  3. 2.7m
  4. 3.7m

A
1.7m
B
2.7m
C
0.7m
D
3.7m
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given a=1.2,t=2
Let t be the time taken by bolt to reach floor after 2s ,by covering distance x
So, in the same time t elevator move upward by distance 2.7x
With frame of reference fixed to elevator shaft, initial velocity of bolt =at=1.2×2=2.4m/s
