Figure given above shows a pair of parallel lines cut by a transversal. For given case, find a and b, giving reasons.

Given
$$l \parallel m$$ and $$p$$ intersects them
$$b + 60^\circ = 180^\circ$$ [Linear pair]
$$b = 180^\circ - 60^\circ$$
We get,
$$b = 120^\circ$$
and $$a = 60^\circ$$ (corresponding angles)
Hence, $$a = 60^\circ$$
$$b = 120^\circ$$
