Article 123 in the Constitution gives power to the President of India to promulgate Ordinances during recess of Parliament. An Ordinance promulgated under this article shall have the same force and effect as an Act of Parliament. The Parliament has to approve the ordinance within six weeks after reassembly failing which it ceases to operate.
