Oxyntic cells (parietal calls) are large and are most numerous on the side walls of the gastric glands. They are called oxyntic cells because they stain strongly with eosin dye. They are called parietal cells as they lie against the basement membrane. They secrete hydrochloric acid and Castle's intrinsic factor.
