- The formed bolus passes down the esophagus into the stomach by the action of peristalsis.

- This chyme enters the duodenum where digestive enzymes from pancreas and bile juice from liver mixes with it and then passes through the small intestine.
- Absorption of nutrients occurs in the small intestine.
- The reabsorption of water and minerals happens majorly in the large intestine.
