Question

The normality of solution obtained by mixing 100 mL of 0.2 M H2SO4 with 100 mL of 0.2 M NaOH is:
  1. 0.2
  2. 0.5
  3. 0.1
  4. 0.3

A
0.2
B
0.3
C
0.1
D
0.5
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Normality= Molarity × Valency factor ..........(1)

Valency factor for H2SO4=2 and that of NaOH=1

N1 of H2SO4=0.2×2=0.4

N2 of NaOH=0.2×1=0.2

We have, N1V1+N2V2=NRVR(2)
VR=100+100=200

by equation (2),we get,

0.4(100)+0.2(100)=NR(200)

4020=NR×200

Normality of resultant solution NR=0.1

Hence, the correct option is A
