Question

Describe the chemical reactions occurring in Lithosphere.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

The chemical reactions occurring at the lithosphere is responsible for the weathering of the rocks. Carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and water in the form of rain or moisture reacts to produce carbonic acid, which further reacts with the carbonate minerals in the rock, thus weakening and finally removing it. The reactions taking place are given below

CO2+H2OH2CO3

CaCO3+H2CO3Ca(HCO3)2
