Lakshadweep Island group is lying close to the Malabar coast of Kerala in the Arabian Sea. It is also known as the Coral Islands. Earlier it was known as Laccadive Minicoyand Amindive. In 1973 these were renamed as Lakshadweep. It covers a small area of 32 sq. Km. Kavaratti Island is the administrative headquarters of Lakshadweep. Pitti island has a bird sanctuary.
