Question

The solubility of a gas (s) in liquid and the pressure (P) of the gas are :
  1. inversely proportional
  2. proportional
  3. cannot be predicted
  4. not related

A
inversely proportional
B
proportional
C
cannot be predicted
D
not related
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The solubility of a gas in liquid and the pressure of the gas are directly proportional. When pressure of the gas decreases, the solubility of a gas in liquid decrease.
Hence, when we open the cold drink bottle, the pressure decreases which decreases the solubility of gas due to which the gas bubbles out.

A boy was carrying out an experiment on the solubility of a gas in the water. He took a solute gas A and dissolved it in a liquid solvent(Water) B at a particular temperature T and pressure P.At that point he got some solubility value S. Later, he observed the value of solubility by

i)increasing temperature of water from T to T' and

ii)decreasing pressure on water surface from P to P'.

He got the new solubility S'.Then what is the relationship between former solubility S and latter solubility S'?
