Question

The main function of microtubules is
  1. Protein synthesis
  2. Movement of cillia and flagella
  3. Formation of spindle fibres
  4. Both (B) and (C)

A
Both (B) and (C)
B
Protein synthesis
C
Movement of cillia and flagella
D
Formation of spindle fibres
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The shaft of cilia and flagella consists of an external sheath, semifluid matrix and an axoneme. Axoneme has 9+2 fibrillar arrangement, comprising of nine peripheral doublet microtubule fibrils and two central singlet microtubule fibrils, central sheath, linkers and spokes. Movement of cilia and flagella is actually caused due to microtubule filaments present in them. In general, microtubules are basic structures of spindle apparatus, centrioles, basal bodies, cilia and flagella.
