According to protoplasmic theory, protoplasm is the physical basis of life as discovered by Huxley. Cell principle states that cells are the structural and functional unit of all living organisms and cells are formed from pre-existing cells. Cell doctrine or cell theory states that all organisms are made up of the similar unit of organization. Modern cell theory includes concepts of cells principle and cell doctrine so it is also called by those names.
