Question

Three of the following statement regarding cell organelles are correct while one is wrong. Which one is wrong?
  1. Lysosomes are double membraned vesicles budded off from Golgi apparatus and contain digestive enzymes.
  2. Endoplasmic reticulum consists of a network of membranous tubules and helps in transport, synthesis and secretion.
  3. Spherosomes are single membrane bound and are associated with synthesis and storage of lipids.
  4. Leucoplasts are bound by two membranes, lack pigment but contain their own DNA and protein synthesizing machinery.

A

Lysosomes are small vesicles containing hydrolyzing enzymes and surrounded by a single membrane of up to 100 nanometers in thickness. It is formed by the Golgi body. Whereas endoplasmic reticulum is a membranous network in the cytoplasm that involved in the formation and transportation of proteins, lipids, steroids etc., leucoplast is the colourless double-membrane bounded plastid which possesses their own DNA and protein synthesising machinery. Spherosomes are the small spherical organelle found in the cytoplasm of the plant cells. It is a single membrane-bounded structure which involved in the formation and storage of lipids in plant cells. Thus, the correct answer is option A.
