Question

When water boils the temperature remains constant. Give reasons.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

  • Water starts boiling at 100oC temperature. After this temperature., the temperature of water becomes constant for some time even after the constant supply of heat.
  • Here the heat supplied is used to overcome the intermolecular force of attraction present in a water molecule to convert it into vapour.
  • This heat is known as latent heat of vaporization.
  • The change in temperature only takes place after conversion of water into vapour.
