Question

10.07 gram Silver obtained during the circulations of electric of 5 ampere upto 30 minutes in silver nitrate pot (cell). Find out electrochemical equivalent of silver. If chemical equivalent of hydrogen is 0.00001036 then what will by equivalent weight of Silver.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

According to Faraday's first law W=Zit.
Given: W=10.07 gm,
i=5 ampere,
t=30×60 seconds
10.07=Z×30×60
Z=10.075×30×60=0.00111888
and by W1W2=E1E2=Z1Z2
=EquivalentmassofsilverEquivalentmassofHydrogen
=ElectrochemicalequivalentofSilverElectrochemicalequivalentofhydrogen
EquivalentweightofSilver1=0.001118880.00001036
Equivalent weight of silver =108
