Question

A liquid $$ X $$ of density $$ 3.36 \mathrm{g} \mathrm{cm}^{-3} $$ is poured in a U-tube, which contains Hg. Another liquid $$ Y $$ is poured in left arm with height $$ 8 \mathrm{cm} $$, upper levels of $$ X $$ and $$ Y $$ are same. What is density of $$ Y ? $$

A
$$ 1.2 \mathrm{gcc}^{-1} $$
B
$$ 0.8 \mathrm{gcc}^{-1} $$
C
$$ 1.6 \mathrm{gcc}^{-1} $$
D
$$ 1.4 \mathrm{gcc}^{-1} $$
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Correct option is A. $$ 0.8 \mathrm{gcc}^{-1} $$

Let the densities of liquids X & Y be $$S_x \ \& \ S_y$$ respectively

$$S_yh_yg+2\times S_{mercury} \ of \ S_xh_xg = 3.36 \times 10$$
$$S_y \times 8+2\times 13.6=3.36 \times 10$$
$$S_y=\dfrac{6.4}{8}$$
$$S_y=0.8g/cm^3$$

Hence, Option "A" is the correct answer.
