Question

A 20 cm long rubber string fixed at both ends obeys Hooke's law. Initially, when it is stretched to make its total length 24 cm, the lowest frequency of resonance is ν0. It is further stretched to make its total length 26 cm. The lowest frequency of resonance now will be
  1. the same as ν0
  2. greater than ν0
  3. lower than ν0
  4. None of these

A
greater than ν0
B
the same as ν0
C
None of these
D
lower than ν0
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Lowest frequency of resonance
Vo=12LTμ
Let the tension when the total length became 24cm be T
When the string is stretched to 26cm the tension in the string increases.
As T increases, frequency increases.
Hence option (B) is correct.
