(a) A tiger from a wildlife sanctuary was shifted in a Zoological garden. Where do you think the tiger will be happier?
(b) What is the difference between a Zoological garden and a wildlife sanctuary?
Zoological garden | Wildlife sanctuary |
It is an artificially created habitat. | It is a natural habitat. |
It is an ex-situ conservation method. | It is in situ conservation method. |
The public can easily visit a zoo. | Wildlife sanctuaries are not easy to visit. |
Animals are kept in cages or protective open enclosures and are not free. | Animals move freely according to their needs. |
Example: Mysore zoo Nehru zoological park | Examples: Bhadra wildlife sanctuary Sasan Gir sanctuary |
(a) An animal always prefers to be in its natural habitat where it is free and has more area to explore. So, in this case, the tiger must be happy in the forest or the wildlife sanctuary, which provides him with natural habitat, compared to the artificially created habitat in a zoo. Also, such a shift in the living conditions of the animal could negatively affect its life patterns, such as its ability to breed and interact with other animals.
