Question

A and B are two alloys of gold and copper prepared by mixing metals in the ratio 7 : 2 and 7 :11 respectively. If equal quantities of the alloys are melted to form a third alloy C, the ratio of gold and copper in C will be
  1. 5 : 7
  2. 5 : 9
  3. 7 : 5
  4. 9 : 5

A
5 : 7
B
5 : 9
C
9 : 5
D
7 : 5
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Let 100 gm of alloy A and 100 gm of alloy B
Gold in alloy A=79×100
copper in alloy A=29×100
Gold in alloy B=718×100
Copper in alloy B=1118×100
Gold in alloy C=7009+70018=210018
Copper in alloy C=2009+110018=150018
Ratio of copper and iron in alloy C=210018:150018
7:5
