Question

A block of mass m moving with velocity V1 collides obliquely and elastically to a stationary block of identical mass then after collision.
  1. both the masses move at right angle to one and other.
  2. only momentum is conserved but not KE.
  3. both KE and momentum are conserved.
  4. moving mass comes to rest and stationary mass moves with velocity v.

A
only momentum is conserved but not KE.
B
moving mass comes to rest and stationary mass moves with velocity v.
C
both the masses move at right angle to one and other.
D
both KE and momentum are conserved.
Solution
Verified by Toppr

In oblique elastic collision the momentum is conserved in X and Y directions separately, also kinetic energy is also conserved. If colliding masses are same then in such collision equal masses will fly away right angles to each other.
