Question

A bomb of mass 9 kg explodes into two pieces of mass 3kg and 6kg . The velocity of mass 3kg is 16 m/s . The K.E of mass 6kg is :
  1. 96 J
  2. 768 J
  3. 384 J
  4. 192 J

A
384 J
B
768 J
C
192 J
D
96 J
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given mass of the bomb=M=9
Initial value of bomb=0
Mass of smaller fragment=3m1
Mass of bigger fragment=6m2
P(just after explosion)=P (just before explosion)
m1×11+m2×v=M×0
v=8
Kinetic energy of mass 6=12m2v2
=12×6×64
=192J
