Question

A bottle contains 34 of milk and the rest water. How much of the mixture must be taken away and replaced by an equal quantity of water so that the mixture has half milk and half water?

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Let the total amount of mixture be X

Then Initial amount of milk = 34×X

Initial amount of water = 14×X

Let 1yth of the mixture is required to be taken away

Then According to question 34×X 1y×34X = 14×X 1y×14X +1yX

Solving we get y=3

So 13rd of the mixture is required to be taken away
