Question

A bullet on penetrating 30 cm into its target loses its velocity by 50%. What additional distance will it penetrate into the target before it comes to rest?
  1. 30 cm
  2. 10 cm
  3. 20 cm
  4. 5 cm

A
20 cm
B
30 cm
C
5 cm
D
10 cm
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given: S=30 cm=30×102m and loss in velocity is 50%
Equation of motion:
v2=u2+2as
Here, u24=u2+2a×30×102 ...... (i)
0=u24+2a×x ......... (ii)
On solving Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get
x=10 cm
