Question

A closed container contains N molecules at P atm and T K. If the absolute temperature is doubled:

A
Gas pressure become $$P/2$$
B
Number of molecules present in the container will becomes $$2$$N
C
Number of molecules present in the container will become $$N/2$$
D
Gas pressure become $$2P$$
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Correct option is C. Gas pressure become $$2P$$
Closed contains N molecules as P, T, K
If temperature doubled,
$$\rightarrow$$ As the container is closed
$$\therefore$$ Molecule remains same i.e., N
$$\therefore$$ as $$\dfrac{P_1}{T_1}=\dfrac{P_2}{T_2}$$
$$\dfrac{P}{T_1}=\dfrac{P_2}{2T_1}$$
as temperature doubled
$$\therefore P_2=2P$$
$$\therefore$$ Pressure will be doubled
$$\therefore$$ Answer option C.
