Question

A coal merchant makes a profit of 20% by selling firewood at Rs. 25 per quintal.
What did 240 quintals of firewood cost him ?

Solution
Verified by Toppr

S.P. of coal = Rs. 25 per quintal
Profit =20%
let C.P. of coal = x per quintal
Therefore, S.P. =x+20%x
25=x+20x100
25=x(1+210)
25=65x
x=20.833
Therefore, 240 quintals of firewood cost =240×20.833=Rs. 5000.
