Question

A compound microscope has an objective lens of 1.0 cm focal length and an eye-piece of 2.5 cm of focal length. When the object is placed at 1.1 cm from the objective, the final image is at the least distance of direct vision. Thus, the magnification produced is
  1. 10
  2. 11
  3. 100
  4. 110

A
11
B
110
C
10
D
100
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The correct option is D 110
given,
uo=1.1 cm,fo=1 cm,fe=2.5 cm

by lens formula,

1vo=1fo+1uo=111.1=111

vo=11 cm

we know,
magnification of compound microscope=vouo(1+Dfe) (when image at D)

m=111.1(1+252.5)=10×(10+1)=110

hence Option D is correct answer.
