Question

A cone of height 8m has a curved surface area 188.4m2. The radius of the base is:
(Take π=3.14):
  1. 4.5m
  2. 4m
  3. 5m
  4. 6m

A
5m
B
4m
C
4.5m
D
6m
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Height of the cone is not given
Assuming height of the cone =8m
Let radius of base of cone =r
Curved surface area of cone =188.4cm2
πrl=188.4cm2l=r2+h2=r2+82=3.14×r×r2+64=188.4=rr2+64=60
Squaring both sides, we get
r2(r2+64)=3600r4+64r23600=0r4+100r236r23600=0(r2+100)(r236)=0r236=0r2=36r=6 m
