In-situ conservation In-situ conservation
In-situ means conservation in the natural habitat. Ex-situ means offsite conservation.
It is the conservation of genetic resources in natural populations of plant or animal species.
Example- Biosphere reserve.
It is the process of protecting an endangered species of plant or animal outside its natural habitat
Example- seed bank, botanical garden.
b) Enough of resources are available to sustain life on earth. But man has been exploiting these resources to such a great extent that some of them are on the verge of extinction.
Cutting down of trees on a large scale for urbanization, cultivation and other selfish needs of man ha resulted in a decrease in the number of flora and fauna. Fossil fuels are also being depleted due to their continuous use. These components cannot be replenished in a short duration of time as they are nonrenewable. Hence, 'Nature provides all for the need of man but not for his greed'.
