Question

A heap of rice is in the form of a cone of diameter 9 m and the height 3.5 m. Find the volume of the rice. How much canvas cloth is required to just cover the heap?

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given that, a heap of rice is in shape of a cone of height h=3.5 m
Radius r=92m=4.5m.
Volume of heap =13πr2h=13×227×(4.5)2×3.5 m3
Volume =74.25m3
Canvas cloth require to cover the help = CSA of cone=πrl
Where l=r2+h2
l=(4.5)2+(3.5)2=5.70 m
Now CSA =πrl=227×4.5×5.70 m2
CSA=80.61m2
