Question

A hollow closed conductor of irregular shape is given some charge. Which of the following statements are correct?
  1. The entire charge will appear on its outer surface
  2. All points on the conductor will have the same potential
  3. All points on its surface will have the same charge density
  4. All points near its surface and outside it will have the same electric intensity

A
All points on the conductor will have the same potential
B
All points near its surface and outside it will have the same electric intensity
C
The entire charge will appear on its outer surface
D
All points on its surface will have the same charge density
Solution

From the basic property of conductor we can say that the all entire charges will appear on the outer surface of any conductor and surface of the conductor is a equipotential surface. As the shape of conductor is irregular, the charge density will be different for every point on the surface. The electric field is not constant outside the conductor because it will vary with distance from the center.
