In the figure given below, DEBC. If DE=6 cm,BC=9 cm and area of ADE=28 sq.cm, find the area of ABC.

Given : DEBC ; Area of ΔADE=28cm2 ;
Consider the ΔADE and ΔABC
A=A (common)
ADE=ABC (corresponding angles)
AED=ACB (corresponding angles)
ΔADE and ΔABC are similar by the AAA criterion if two triangles are similar then two ratio of their areas is equal to the ratio of the square of the corresponding sides.
i.e, AreaΔABCAreaΔADE=BC2DE2
Ar.ofΔABC28=9262
Area of ΔABC=9262×28=3×32×2×28=9×7=63cm2
