Question

A man weighing 80 kg climbs a staircase carrying a 20/kg load. The staircase has 40 steps, each of 25 cm height. If he takes 20 seconds to climb, the work done is (Take g=10 m/s2):
  1. 9800 J
  2. 490 J
  3. 7840 J
  4. 98×105 J

A
7840 J
B
9800 J
C
490 J
D
98×105 J
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Gravity is a conservative force so W.D is independent of path followed
m is total mass ( load plus man ). h is the total height.
Work done: W=mgh=100×9.8×(40×.25)=9800J
