Question

A model of a building is in the from of a cone surmounting a cylinder. The radius of the cylinder is 6 cm The height of the model is 63 cm. The vertical angle of the cone is 120. Find the volume of the model (in cm2).
  1. 1483π
  2. 1563π
  3. 1623π
  4. 1683π

A
1483π
B
1563π
C
1623π
D
1683π
Solution
Verified by Toppr

In ΔOAB
tan600=ABOA3=6OA=OA=63=633=23

h2=6323=43

Now, Volume of model = 13πr2h1+πr2h2
= πr2(h13+h2)

= π×6×6(233+43)=π×36×(23+1233)

= π×36×1433=1683πcm3

Rachel, an engineering student, was asked to make a model shaped like a cylinder with two cones attached at its two ends by using a thin aluminium sheet. The diameter of the model is 3 cm and its length is 12 cm. If each cone has a height of 2 cm, find the volume of air contained in the model that Rachel made . (Assume the outer and inner dimensions of the model to be nearly the same.)
