Question

A pendulum clock gives correct time at 20o (at a place where g=10m/s2) The pendulum consists of a light steel rod connected to a heavy ball. If it is taken to a different place (whereg=10)01m/s2 at what temperature the pendulum gives correct time (αofsteelis105/oC) [2007 E ]
  1. 30oC
  2. 60oC
  3. 1000oC
  4. 120oC

A
120oC
B
30oC
C
60oC
D
1000oC
Solution
Verified by Toppr

We know that,
For a pendulum clock
T=2nlgT=2π(l)1/2(g)1/2
So, ΔTT=Δl2lΔg2g
Here, ΔT=0 and Δl=lΔT(Thermal expansion)
So,
OT=Δl2lΔg2g
Δgg=Δll
Δgg=αeΔTe
10.011010=(105)(T20)
103105=T20
T=102+20=120oC
Option D is correct.
