Question

A p-n junction diode is reverse biased. Then
  1. the barrier potential decreases.
  2. the barrier potential increases,
  3. more current flows.
  4. resistance offered is low.

A
more current flows.
B
the barrier potential decreases.
C
the barrier potential increases,
D
resistance offered is low.
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The width of the depletion layer in a p-n junction diode increases in reverse bias as charge carriers are swept into battery terminals, holes from p-type into negative terminal and electrons from n-type into positive terminal. Due to large number of ions in depletion region, its potential increases.
