Question

A ray of light incident at an angle θ on a refracting face of prism emerges from the other face normally. If the angle of the prism is 5 and the prism is made of material of refractive index 1.5, the angle of incidence is
  1. 7.5.
  2. 5.
  3. 15.
  4. 2.5.

A
2.5.
B
5.
C
7.5.
D
15.
Solution
Verified by Toppr

We have deviation, δ=(M1)A
δ=(1.51)5=2.5
The angle of the prism is 50°.The ray emerges from refracting face of a prism normally.
Then, i2=r2=0
As, A=r1+r2=0
r1=A
r1=50°
But i1=μr1=32×5=7.5°
