Question

Assertion :A ray of light is incident from outside on a glass sphere surrounded by air. This ray may suffer total internal reflection at second interface. Reason: If a ray of light goes from denser to rarer medium, it bends away from the normal.
  1. Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
  2. Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
  3. Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect
  4. Both Assertion and Reason are incorrect

A
Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
B
Both Assertion and Reason are incorrect
C
Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
D
Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect
Solution
Verified by Toppr

When a ray of light enters as spherical glass sphere, it is first refracted at first interface and then it strike the inner surface of sphere (second interface) and get totally internally reflected if the angle between the refracted ray and normal to the drop surface is greater than the critical angle (42, in this case).
