Question

A right angled triangle of which the sides containing the right angle are 6.3cm and 10cm in length, is made to turn around on the longer side. Find the volume of the solid thus generated.

Solution

We know that the volume of a right circular cone with radius r and height h is V=13πr2h.

It is given that the height of the solid is h=10 cm and radius is 6.3 cm, therefore,

V=13πr2h=13×227×(6.3)2×10=13×227×39.69×10=415.8cm3

Hence, the volume of the solid is 415.8 cm3.
