Question

A right circular cone has base radius 5 cm. If the radius is increased by 20% without any change in height of the cone, then the percentage increase in volume is:
  1. 44%
  2. 40%
  3. 25%
  4. 22%

A
44%
B
22%
C
40%
D
25%
Solution
Verified by Toppr

V3V1=(65r)2hr2h=3625=1.44

Increase =44%
Let initial volumeV1=13πr2h.
Given, radius is increased by 20%.
That is, new radius =r+20%r=r+20100r=65r.
Then, new volume V2=13π(65r)2h.

Then, V2V1=(65r)2hr2h=3625=1.44
V2=1.44V1
V2=V1+0.44V1
V2=V1+0.44100V1
V2=V1+44%V1.
Thus, increase in volume =44%.

Hence, option A is correct.
