Question

A sample of nitrogen gas at 2.00 atm and 546K occupies 100 mL. What volume would the sample of nitrogen occupy at STP?
  1. 109 mL
  2. 137 mL
  3. 20.0 mL
  4. 50.0 mL

A
20.0 mL
B
137 mL
C
109 mL
D
50.0 mL
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given,
Pressure, P1=2atm
Temperature, T1=546K
Volume , V1=100mL

At STP condition,
P2=1atm
T2=298K

For ideal gas equation,

P1V1T1=P2V2T2

2×100546=1×V2298

V2=109mL

The volume of the sample of nitrogen occupy at STP is 109mL.

Thus, the correct option is (A).
